The Illinois Prevention Research Center (PRC) is led by Dr. Lisa Powell, the principal investigator of the CDC grant funding our work.

Dr. Powell is professor and director of the Division of Health Policy and Administration in the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health. She is a health economist whose research has focused on the impact of economic, policy and environmental factors on physical activity and obesity for more than a decade. Learn more about her research.

The Illinois PRC is focused on advancing policy, systemic and environmental solutions to promote healthy behaviors and prevent chronic disease, especially in vulnerable communities.

To this end, our center has extensive multidisciplinary capacity in the area of policy and environmental systems-related community-based health prevention research.

Our combined expertise includes public health, economics, policy analysis, medicine, dentistry, nursing, epidemiology, nutrition, kinesiology, psychology, sociology, statistics, urban planning, communications, training, and evaluation. We have an excellent track record of successful collaborations in community-based research. Our home is a multidisciplinary research institute through which we can draw faculty-scientists across the entire University of Illinois at Chicago campus into new scientific projects that address community health.
